A new Independent Health’s Health and Wellness Center serving Medicare recipients has opened at 620 Dick Rd, Cheektawaga, NY. It is a wonderful facility. I was there to help in the celebration offering brief seminars on tai chi/qigong for health. Upcoming Chi Time workshops for seniors at the site are Wed Aug 19, and Sept, 8, 15 & 22 (10-11AM).

July 5-10, 2009 the International Tai Chi Chuan Symposium as held in Nashville TN. This was an historic event where leading researchers and the foremost tai chi masters collaborated to present the best of tai chi past, present and future. Researchers and experts from the Mayo Clinic, Harvard medical Center, Boston Medical Center, the CDC, the NIH were among those represented. I presented preliminary findings from a study in progress with a community partner, People, Inc on feasibility of daily tai chi/qigong practice in Day Habilitation settings for individuals with Intellectual disability. this research is funded by the Community health Foundation and has been highly successful. We are now seeking funding to produce training materials for dissemination and replication. PK
I just returned from two weeks (Aug 1-15, 2008) of Qi Gong study with Dr. Yang Jwing Ming at his beautiful Retreat Center in Norther California. I learned lots and met some very talented individuals. I look forward to sharing my new knowledge with my students.
I met many wonderful teachers at ‘A Taste of China’ Summer Seminar. Many teach Seniors who have movement and/or cognitive challenges. As part of our seminar sharing, I explained how I use 12″ length of foam ‘float’ noodles to assist students to perform movements such as ‘prayer wheel’ and ‘cloud hands’ as well as for self-tapping massage.
If you teach Seniors and have valuable knowledge to share on successful teaching strategies and classs activities for this student group, this is the place to share. We invite your comments and teaching tips.
