Feb 28th, I had a wonderful visit with both the Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s family support Groups in Bluffton/Hilton Head, South Carolina. We did the ‘Chi for You’ and ‘5 Elements’ Routines. Many of the atttendees agreed to partiicpate in our on going research about utlity of taiji/qigong for caregivers and individuals with Alzheimer’s disease.
As a follow up to a study on therapeutic benefits of taiji for individuals with Parkinson’s disease by Klein PJ & Adams W published in ‘Neurology Report’ in 2006, P. Klein was invited to be a contributing author for a new publication: ‘Tai Chi Chuan, State-of-the-Art in International Research’,
Editor: Dr. Youlian Hong, University of Hong Kong,
Publisher: S. Karger Publisher.
The book is a definitive synthesis of contemporary research in TCC with comprehensive reference works in which studies from biomechanics, physiology, psychology, health and fitness, rehabilitation and therapy, clinical treatment as well as social impact are reported. It is being written by a team of international experts. When complete, it will be published as a volume in the series ‘MEDICINE AND SPORT SCIENCE’. The work is now in the proof reading stage. It should go to press in early 2008. Members of the Tuesday AM Taiji Buddies class (MaryJo, Alice, Pat, Jim, Diane, Paul, Nancy & Bob) are featured in a photo/ illlustration in our chapter.
